About The Owner Joi Riley
I would like to introduce myself as the owner and director of Dance For Joi. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to share my love for dance and creative energy with such passionate and determined dancers. Dance For Joi is a new dance school in east Atlanta, though we are a small company I have big dreams for my company. I may be new to the business but I'm not new to the dance world. I've been dancing for over 15 years and have been teaching for 10 years. I started substituting for local dance schools and then was offered a teaching position at my home studio. This spring my home studio shut down leaving young dancers with nowhere to continue their passion for dance, so I started a summer camp for the kids and it went very well. From the results of the summer camp, fall of 2015 I found a studio space and started "Dance for Joi".
Fall of 2003, at the age of seven, I began taking Jazz and Hip Hop with Lashawn Cook and Iris Middleton, at Iris Academy of Music & Movement. From there my training and classes increased. I was a competitive dancer and was training to become not only the best dancer I can be but artist. Once I got to middle school, I got involved in majorette; from sixth grade all the way up to twelfth, holding very important leadership roles in middle and high school. I also danced with a new upcoming artist as a backup dancer; it was one of the best experiences of my whole dance career. I had to chance to experience real life in the show business. I traveled around the Atlanta area and performed in all types of environments. After that ran its course, I got to focus more on being a teacher and choreographer. Summer of 2014 I became a demonstrator and from there progressed to teaching and choreographing dances on my own at my home studio, I Am Movement. During this time I grew a strong passion for teaching and choreographing. My first dance I’ve ever created for a group placed very well at competition. I had found a new love in dance and was determined to see where it would take me.
I love seeing my visions come to life and passing down the art of dance to young free spirits. It is such a reward to see each of my dancers grow, not only in dance but as young women, men & artist as a whole. Dance for Joi is not only preparing dancers for the stage but for life. This is a safe environment where each dancer will learn discipline, responsibility, commitment and the importance of building true friendship and leadership.
