General Guidelines For Dancers Parents Performance
Competition Team Members are held to a higher standard. In order to maintain a level of excellence, Competition Team members have additional classes, rehearsal times, requirements and fees. If you can’t meet the requirements, we have other performance opportunities that can accommodate any dancer at any level in an equally gratifying environment.
• ALL DANCERS MUST AUDITION or be invited before they are selected for the team (ages 7 & up, even if you have been accepted before you will need to re-audition each season).
• You cannot “pick” which pieces you want to be placed in. All casting decisions will be made by the Director and the audition panel. Your piece placement is based off of your audition, your previous training, your prior class attendance and work ethic and your summer class involvement.
• Rehearsals are held on Saturdays and Sunday’s, for usually 45 minutes-1 hour time slots. Required technique classes must be taken separately (please refer to the Class Requirements section).
• All competitions and conventions will be held during weekends during November to May. Dancers are responsible for transportation and lodging.
• Team Members are expected to attend ALL rehearsals and maintain 80% attendance in required technique classes. Please do not over-commit!
• Each season is a 9.5 month commitment.
• DFJDC costumes are professionally constructed or stylized by director.
• Team Members will have a personalized monthly payment plan to include most of their season’s fees. Payments will start in September. Please refer to the Team Fees section for details.

We understand that there are more fees with DFJDC than with just taking regular classes. In order to make it more manageable for our families, we offer a payment plan that wraps as many fees together as possible...even including RECITAL COSTUMES AND RECITAL FEES!
Why do competition Costumes cost more?
It is important for the dancers to feel unique and ELITE! Extra attention and over the top custom costumes goes a long way. These usually are not ordered from a mass catalog but rather handcrafted, fit and designed for each individual dancer. There are often additional accessories or embellishments that are added to every costume. All dancers may be required to purchase competition jewelry or other accessories as part of costuming. A list of mandatory items will be distributed to all parents at the start of the performance/competition season. We work hard to find each costume. Costumes range from $85 to $165 per costume. Sneakers are included in the costume fee for Hip-Hop pieces. Shoe prices can range from $38-$65

Attendance Policy: Proper attendance is an essential component of the dancer’s education and progress. All classes are dedicated to technique and/or choreography. A dancer who misses class and/or rehearsal may hold back the progress of the entire team. When a dancer is absent from a choreography class, they are expected to learn the choreography prior to returning to the next class. All dancers are allowed no more than 3 absences in each class October through April. Although dancers are allowed 3 absences, we encourage perfect attendance. Dancers should only be absent if it is absolutely necessary. Attendance will be monitored closely in all classes. There are no "make up" classes for any absence. However, should a dancer be absent, we encourage he/she to attend an additional technique class for the purpose of keeping up with the technique. Attending an additional class does not delete nor give credit for an absence.
With the growing trend in social media, we ask that all dancers and parents refrain from negative Facebook or other social network postings regarding the studio, its staff members and its students.
You are part of a team and are expected to support, help, and work together with all of your peers. Each class may vary in ages, levels and abilities. Poor attitudes, poor conduct, or any unnecessary drama toward other students or instructors will not be tolerated within our Competition Team or anywhere in the studio. These behaviors will result in warnings that could result in termination.
Dress Codes MUST be followed by Dance Competition members. NO EXCUSES. You are a role model and it's your job to represent your studio and set good examples for others. It is disrespectful to come to dance class in anything other than dance attire. Students not following dress codes will not be allowed to dance. They will be asked to sit out or sent home. This will be marked as an absence which may result in termination.
NO REFUNDS.
