Zoom Tips

We’ve learned a few things in our first virtual classes. Here are some tips for using Zoom.

  • The first time, log on a little early to give yourself adequate time to set Zoom up on your device.

  • If you would like to enlarge the teacher’s window, click the pushpin icon that’s found in the corner of their window.

  • If you want to see more of the other students in the class, connect on a laptop instead of a phone or iPad.

  • If you have a smart TV, you can cast your device to the TV screen.

    • For a laptop, make sure your laptop and Smart TV are hooked to the same wifi. Open Zoom in Google Chrome. Click the three dots in the top right corner of the Chrome window and select “Cast”. Click the “Sources” drop-down and select “Cast from Desktop”. Then select your Smart TV.

    • For an iPhone or iPad or Mac, you can use AirPlay.

  • If you do not have a Smart TV, you can connect your laptop to your tv with an HDMI cable.

  • Unless your teacher asks you to unmute or asks you a question, please keep your window muted. You can mute/unmute by clicking the microphone icon on your window.

Class Tips

If you will be joining classes remotely via Zoom, here are some helpful tips and info:

  • Make sure you have a decent space to move in. It doesn’t need to be huge, just make sure you’re not going to bump into anything!

  • If you can, wear footwear appropriate for class, but adjust as needed for the floor you are on

    • Ballet - soft ballet shoes or socks

    • Jazz - jazz shoes, ballet shoes, or socks

    • Modern - bare feet (socks may be necessary if you are on carpet)

    • Hip Hop - sneakers or hip hop shoes

    • Tap - tap shoes (you can lay down a plywood board to tap on if you don’t have a surface that works at home, wear a different type of shoe that won’t damage your floor, or just be ok with not making as much sound as you normally would!)

  • Dress for class as you would if you were in the studio! That generally means form fitting clothing (so your instructor can see your body and give appropriate feedback) and hair pulled neatly back and off the face.  Strict dress code is not enforced, but it does help you get in the right frame of mind for class.

  • You may use the chat function to ask or answer questions during class, but please do not use it for conversations with classmates as it can be a distraction.

  • Some glitching is normal.  You may find your teacher freezing, or sound cutting out/sounding strange occasionally.  This may be an issue with the internet connection on our end, your end, or both. You may ask them to repeat something if you missed important information, but you don’t need to let them know every time it happens.

  • All of our online classes are recorded on Zoom (teacher view only) and are available by request only to dancers who have booked the class.  This is a great resource if you accidentally missed a class you booked or were having internet connectivity issues that made class difficult.

CANCELLATION/ DROPPING CLASSES

Thank you!!!

We are working to find ourselves a new normal for the time being, and we are committed to continuing to offer you the best customer service and studio experience during this time. Your patience and cooperation are greatly appreciated. Our staff has worked very hard on learning a new platform to be able to connect with our students. There will be a few hiccups along the way as this is new to all of us.
