UPDATES: Below you will find the audition videos for our 2024/2025 competition teams.  Please learn all the material in the video for your age. We are looking for potential not perfection, do your best and good luck :)

• NEW STUDENTS ONLY: Students will be evaluated in Ballet Technique, Flexibility and Across the floor skills such as leaps, turns and acrobatic skills.

• NEW STUDENTS ONLY AUDITION SOLO: Students will be asked to prepare a 1 minute solo. The solo performance will be 60 seconds long. In this short time you have to show the judges who you are as a dancer. To make sure you’re truly showcasing all that you have to offer, prepare and practice your solo far in advance of the audition.

It’s fine to choreograph the dance yourself, or have a coach or instructor do it for you. Focus on showing your personality in the dance, and tricks are cool but they aren’t everything. Make sure both your technical precision and presentation skills are as well-developed as they can be. And when the time comes to perform, take a deep breath, smile and go for it, knowing you’ve prepared as best you could.

Music should be turned in the day before auditions. Please email music to JoiRiley@danceforjoi.com

• Results will be emailed the following day.

COMPETITION TEAM

The majority of our students dance at the recreational level, and we offer a wide variety of instructional, technique-focused weekly classes with a professional year-end show for them.

But for the student who desires something more, our dance studio has a competition dance team that allows for more performance opportunities and training at dance competitions and conventions.

Our goal for them is to have a competitive, positive, and extremely self-driven group of dancers that are very focused on dance and desire to better themselves while being team players. ALL DANCERS MUST AUDITION or be invited before they are selected for the team (even if you have been accepted before you will need to re-audition each season).

ABOUT DFJDC COMP TEAM

Our routines have won specialty awards for choreography, technique, stage presence, and entertainment. Awards are fun, but our main goal is to see growth in all of our dancers on and off the stage. It is our mission and goal to develop work ethic, dedication, and drive in our dancers that will serve them well through their dance careers and carry over into all of their future endeavors in LIFE. The team competes in 2-3 regional competitions every year. Attendance at all competitions is mandatory for every competitor. Competitors are also required to attend at least one convention per year.

Requirements

You cannot “pick” which pieces you want to be placed in. All casting decisions are made by the Director and the audition panel. Your piece placement is based off of your audition, your previous training, your prior class attendance and work ethic, and your Summer class involvement. Each Team Member is a reflection of the studio. Team Members are expected to set good examples through attendance, dress code and work ethic. Each season is a nine month commitment. Team Members will have a personalized monthly payment plan to include all of their season’s fees. Payment will start late July.
